Aim

To provide all parties involved in construction with an understanding of the new CDM Regulations 2007 and the practicalities of its application. The briefing is designed to give delegates an overview of the legal framework and its relationship to construction activities. The course also serves as an introduction to additional construction specific training

• The HSE’s holistic approach to CDM – An understanding of the general principles and philosophy of CDM
• The background and requirements for the new regulations including changes and emphasis.
• Interpretation and application of the regulations and ACoP
• Achieving compliance
• Principles of prevention
• Duties, roles and responsibilities covered by CDM Regulations 2007
• ACoP competence and training
• Pre-construction information
• Selection and control of contractors competence
• Communication & co-operation on site

Knowledge

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

* Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the duty holders legal responsibilities
* Evaluate the competency of the persons that have been appointed and the company’s liabilities relating to them
* Show an understanding and awareness of the principal changes and reasons, the new approach to be adopted and the regulations, with respect to content and its implementation
* Understand the necessity for resource and the availability of information, to aid compliance with statutory duties
